The Singer’s Gym offers training and tools
to experience full connection, vitality and
spontaneity
in the practice and performance of vocal music.
Check out our article in Classical Singer Magazine.
The Singer’s Gym fills a need that is met nowhere else in the Bay Area. It
allows singers to explore, grow and try out new things in a supportive
environment.
A.R., mezzo soprano
Ben and Kathy combine years of invaluable professional experience and they
bring their compassion, insight and humor to sessions that achieve positive
results.
R. T., tenor
The Singers’ Gym has helped me find and release my true voice. With the
combination of practical and spiritual support offered by Ben and Kathy, I’ve
managed musical feats I never thought I could pull off and found musical depths
I didn’t know I had.
T.L., soprano
We are looking forward to adding a new component to the Gym programs in 2010: Performances.
Many of our singers have suggested we build in a performance opportunity after the Gym training.
We're working on funding for this. Stay tuned!
Our first performing venture is a workshop production of two new one act operas. The two
composers are Shira Kammen ("The Lady Fortune") and Ben Bernstein ("The Man in the Mirror").
The performance date is January 30, 2010 and it will be at Music Sources in Berkeley. Stay tuned
here for details.
Ben will compose one of them ("The Man in the Mirror") and noted medieval instrumentalist Shira
Kammen, will compose the other ("The Lady Fortune"). Bernstein and Kammen raised the funds --
and more-- to meet the challenge grant. The shows are in development. Watch this site for more
information.
The project has received generous support from our donors and grants from the the East Bay Community
Foundation, the Zellerbach Family Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
The photos on our site were graciously provided by Jim Meredith and David Hand.
